This sleeve, as the other reviewers have point out, is somewhat thicker and firmer than the usually neoprene sleeve. But it also offers a lot more protection. My last laptop bit the dust after being dropped from a height of five feet to a concrete sidewalk. Although I don't think I'd want to try that experiment with my new laptop, I think this sleeve would prevent it from suffering the same fate. Moreover I carry my laptop in my purse, and having a somewhat stronger case means that I feel more secure about the inevitable bumps. I also really like the look; the black-on-black stripes give it an understated elegance. Plus, the low price means that when I inadvertently left the sleeve in my hotel room on my last trip, I just ordered a new one from Amazon without a qualm.

If you're looking for something that will just protect your machine from scratches this is probably overkill, but if you want something that offers a little more protection while still being inexpensive and goodlooking, this is the case for you.

Update on 6/4/11 : I finally did drop my Air on a concrete floor while it was in this sleeve (not on purpose). I'm happy to say that my machine came through unscathed.
