I've been using a gym bag forever now.
My most recent one had holes in it the size of my fist so I decided to upgrade.
A briefcase was out of the question since I'm an office grunt not an executive.
For my needs this thing is perfect.
It has a ton of compartments and more than enough room and padding to bring my Kindle Fire to work and back.
I'm sure it would work fine for a very slim laptop also.
It's classy and well made. Not quite as stuffy as a brief case but at least I don't look like a homeless person walking around with this like I did with my gym bag.
All in all I'm very happy.
Like I said, there's more than enough room for my tablet as well as a bottle of soda, a few bags of chips and other assorted goodies when I run to the convenience store.
I do wish the shoulder strap were a tad longer. I adjusted it all the way and it's still pretty short. Other than that...
Love it.
